Just Waiting

Have you read the Dr. Suess book, “Oh the Places You’ll Go?” There is a page (or two) dedicated to “the waiting place” which is where I am now…unfortunatly. I’m in that useless place call “the waiting place.”

“The Waiting Place…

…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a sting of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.”

- from Dr. Suess “Oh, the Places You’ll Go”

I am definately waiting for a yes or a no on passing my NCLEX exam. I finished 265 questions (the maximum number you can take) in 3 hours and 45 minutes. It was the longest probably most stress full 3 hours and 45 minutes of my life thus far. BUT I’m finished with my exam and in a few days (or in a month) I will know the answer to the ever pressing question…Did I pass?

Jumping on the Bandwagon

A few months ago the Twilight movie came out. I had resisted thus far in reading/watching them. Then some of my fellow bloggers (particularly Tia) started blogging about it.

I rolled my eyes a bit and went on with my life. After all it’s just a book right.

(Just say No…to conformity!)

Well then my roommates started getting all excited about the movie (and eventually the books). I joined in the bantor and excitement a little bit and again shrugged my shoulders. (My “Whatever” look.)

Well, my roommate left Twilight sitting on her shelf and I ran out of books to read. Finally I gave into the pressure and read it.

(Thinking if I don’t like it I can always find something else to read, I can put it down, I don’t need to read the rest of the books.)

Well…I was wrong. These books are amazing. (Why didn’t I just listen to you people in the first place?!) They seriously are like candy. I have become addicted.

And yes, Edward Cullen I believe may truely have the power to cause heart failure.

Books!

Some of you may be aware that I have a small huge obsession with books. I love to read. (Sadly as a college student I don’t have as much time as I’d like to devote to reading – except lately.)

I have become a rather frequent flyer to the local library and one of my close friends exchanges books (or titles) with me so I always have something new to add to my list of things to read.

I just finished reading Suzanne’sDiary for Nicholas by James Patterson.

It’s a sad story, but it’s got some good underlying messages in it and things that make you think about your own life.

(But I won’t lie…I cried when I read it.)

(And yes, I will happily admit that I am excited to join a book club once I have a job and am settled someplace.)

The Randomosity of my Life

First off I’d like to say that being sick sucks and “health services” at my school does nothing. Even my nursing profs think so. (Clearly something is wrong with this picture.)

(And the nurses at Health Services obviously DID NOT go to Luther for their nursing education.)

(Ok maybe it’s more the doctors that need improvement…hmm.)

I went in purely because I had not slept well in four (yes, FOUR) days. They gave me a single dose of a codeine cough syrup and made an appointment for the next day.

When I went in for my appointment, you’d think the doctor would be in, assess, maybe draw blood to see if I’ve got a bug, and get me out of there. Instead, we spend most of the visit talking about my major and the effect the poor economy is having on jobs for everyone (including nurses – he, by the way, was surprised that it was hard to find a nursing job).

(What I really wanted to say: “HELLO! I’m sick, I don’t care what you think about nursing and the economy or your surprise that there are no nursing jobs. I want to feel better!”)

I also want to point out that I will indeed make a good nurse. I did not kill the manikin in my interactive lab exam last night. (Hurray!) In fact, we did not have a eulogy to read in lab when we did debriefing today. There were no fake families that were sobbing in the hallway because they lost “Mr. Billy Rubin” the maninkin, a father, husband, son, etc.

This “interactive lab” exam did however, make me realize that I still have a lot to learn about a lot of things. (Even though I’m graduating in 16 days.)

(Yikes!)

A small shout out to Maine: “Way to follow the trend and get on board with Gay Marriage!”  Maine is now the 5th state to allow Gay Marriage. Really, if they can’t get married, why should I?

Camp is just around the corner and I am excited. (Arn’t you?) Sharing my faith, learning from others, being a part of God’s Plan, it’s all fantastic! (And exciting – clearly.)

As a side note (sort of) if you’re looking for a good book to read I recommend The Men I Didn’t Marry by Janice Kaplan and Lynn Schnurnberger. I got it from a friend who got it from a friend. It didn’t take me long to read it. (But then I read fast…)
